In December 2024, the Language Technologies Research Centre celebrated 25 years since its founding with a two-day event at IIIT Hyderabad.
A look back, and forward
The celebration brought together talks and panel discussions on the vision, mission, evolution, and future of language technologies. Over its first quarter century, LTRC has grown into one of the largest academic centres for speech and language technology in South Asia, working across machine translation, natural language processing, speech processing, and information retrieval.
Launching BhashaVerse
The Silver Jubilee was also the occasion for one of the centre’s largest open releases to date: BhashaVerse, a collection of translation models and datasets covering 36 Indian languages. Marking a milestone with an open contribution to the community reflects how the centre has tended to approach its work over the years.
